WHO WE ARE

The Islington Crisis Fund is a registered charity (Registered Charity Number 1197328) that was originally set up in 2021 in response to the financial hardship being created by the Covid-19 pandemic.  We are now addressing the serious difficulties the current cost of living crisis is causing many people in the borough.  Living costs are rising at the fastest rate in a generation, and things are set to get worse as energy costs continue to rise at an alarming rate.

How do we help?

We recruit people to receive help from our local foodbanks to ensure that they are really in need. Since their basic food needs are being met, we give vouchers, usually of £50 from suppliers of a wide range of goods such as Argos. For instance families may need children’s clothes and shoes, household equipment, a mobile phone or sanitary products. This system gives a lot of choice to recipients and we ask no questions about how the vouchers are spent. If needed we may give again, funds permitting.

Despite its reputation as very middle class, Islington is one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. We believe we are filling a gap in the help being given here and have the support of several local organisations.

Janet Burgess, last year's Mayor of Islington says of the project “No one can go through life without a helping hand from others at some time. The Islington Crisis Fund seeks to give practical relief to those who are struggling at present.” The project is backed by My Fair London, a voluntary organisation which campaigns for greater equality in our very unequal city.
